There were no surprises when it came to who qualified, and all the teams you would expect to make it out of the group did, but the tournament got interesting in the knockout stages.
First of all, Wales defeated Belgium 2-1 after extra time in the first knockout round, but they got killed by Germany in the 2nd round. The real shocker wasn't Wales though, it was Ukraine.
Ukraine won 2 games in their group, only losing to Italy, and that was enough for them to qualify for the knockout round. In the knockout rounds, Ukraine started off by beating Denmark 1-0, then they easily beat the Netherlands 2-0, and then, somehow, they beat Germany in penalties, after neither team scored in 120 minutes, to advance to the finals. The exact same thing happened in the final, but this time, Ukraine couldn't clutch it in penalties, and Spain won the European Championship.
