In the group stage, there weren't any surprises. Portugal missed out on the knockout stages again, but that was because they also had France and Belgium in their group, so that wasn't a huge surprise.
In the knockout rounds, there were a lot of surprises. First, Russia beat England 1-0 in the first round. But the real surprise was Turkey, who beat Denmark, France, and Spain on their way to the final. They beat Denmark 2-1 in a hard-fought game, then they dominated France, winning 3-1, and then squeezed out a 1-0 win over Spain. They nearly won it too, but the Netherlands won the final in penalties after the game was tied 1-1 after 120 minutes.
Frenkie de Jong for the Netherlands won the player of the tournament
Yussuf Poulsen for Denmark was the top goalscorer with 4 goals.
The Liverpool Dynasty
Liverpool has now won 4 Champions leagues in a row, and 5 of the last 6 including their 2019 triumph. Their team is basically their current team, except they added Ruben Neves and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and lost Mo Salah in 2022.
