Winners: England
Runners-Up: Brazil
3rd place: Germany
4th place: Croatia
It's Coming Home. England won the World Cup. And here's how it happened...
Group Stage
In this new format, there are 16 groups, with 3 teams in each group. This will cause there to be fewer surprises in the group stage. One big surprise was that The Gambia somehow qualified for the knockout stages over Iran. All they did was draw against Iran, and lose to Italy by fewer goals, but it's still surprising that they drew Iran. Other than that, there were no surprises, but we did have a crazy score when the Netherlands beat El Salvador 10-0.
Round of 32
In the round of 32, things started to get interesting. We had a few blowouts, like when Argentina drubbed Senegal 6-0, Holland beat Mexico 5-1, and Germany beat Colombia 5-1. There were some great games, like Spain defeating Uruguay 3-2, Portugal winning 2-1 over Morocco, and Croatia shocking Italy, who were ranked number 2 in the world before the tournament, 2-1. We had other surprising results too, like Canada scoring 2 in extra time to beat Wales 3-1, but the biggest shock of all was pulled off by Venezuela when they beat Belgium 1-0.
Round of 16
Sadly, Canada's run ended here, when they lost 1-0 to Croatia, but their American neighbors beat Algeria in a thrilling game that ended 4-3 to the Americans. Venezuela also lost here, but they fought hard, losing 1-0 to Argentina. The current holders, Brazil, easily beat the Netherlands 2-0, and they will face Spain, who beat Poland 1-0 thanks to a 93rd-minute goal by Agustin Benito. England won 1-0 against Portugal to face off against America, Germany won 2-1 against France, and Ireland pulled off the most surprising score of the round by demolishing Ghana 6-0.
Quarter-Finals
Ireland's incredible run ended here, as they lost 3-2 to Germany in a game that Ireland dominated for the first 70 minutes, going up 2-0, and then conceding 3 goals in the final 20 minutes to lose. England will also move on to the Semi-Final after beating the USA 3-2. Croatia is making another incredible run in this tournament, as they beat Argentina 1-0. They will face Brazil in the semi-final, who beat Spain in a defensive battle that ended 1-0.
Semi-Finals
We had two incredible games in the semifinals. The first game was Croatia vs Brazil, which might be the most entertaining game in World Cup history. After 60 minutes, it was 0-0, but then, Brazil put Gabriel Jesus on as a substitute. Jesus scored the opening goal less than 2 minutes after coming onto the pitch, and then he proceeded to score another one 3 minutes later. At that point, it looked over for Croatia, but then, in added time, Mateo Kovacic scored a goal. After that, Croatia stole the ball, took it upfield, and Ante Rebic scored the equalizer. In overtime, Jesus scored again, and Neymar scored 5 minutes later. However, Croatia pulled it back again, scoring 2 goals in the last 10 minutes of extra time to send the game to penalties. Brazil would end up winning the game in penalties, and Croatia's run ended. In the England v. Germany game, there were no goals in regular time. In extra time, we didn't get one until the very end, when Jadon Sancho scored to send England to the final.
Third-Place game
Germany beat Croatia 1-0, that's it because nobody cares about the 3rd place game
Final
It was a boring game. There were very few chances for either team, just a lot of passing the ball around trying to find a chance. In the 87th minute, though, Marcus Rashford scored the goal to win England the World Cup, and cemented himself as a national hero.
